Spinning cat hair; separation of topcoat and undercoat

Hi! My name is Frank, I’m 24, from Canada and it’s my first post on this forum. I have a question and i’m not able to find a clear answer from google.

Please be patient; English isn’t my first language and I’m not totally bilingual.

My aunt have a pet grooming salon (mainly cats) and throw INSANE amount of cat hair in the trash. After reading on the subject, i seen that you can card, spin and knit cat hair BUT only undercoat. I seen that if you spin the topcoat, the yarn will be ‘‘rough’’. People who spin usually ask that you remove the topcoat from the ‘‘good stuff’’.

Since i have only one life, and that my aunt just shave too many cats, do anyone know of any way to remove the top coat by other way than ‘‘by hands’’?

I have a friend who spin, another who knit… and i would like a good pair of mittens for Christmas… :stuck_out_tongue:

Again, sorry if i miss some technical terms.

Thank you for your help and have a nice day!

Welcome to Knitting Help!
There are folks here who spin and they may have the best advice. I couldn’t find any easy way to sort fur from any source. Good luck with your project.
