Spencer the Elephant Baby

Hi
I am making Spencer the Elephant Baby blanket and I was wondering if there is an easier way to make the trunk? I was hoping I could cast on and join in the round to make a tube instead of using all the multiple steps? Please see Free patterns .com and tell me what you think. Plus, I cant seem to print from Adobe . Am I doing something wrong?

I think one section of it goes on the upper part of the body with the head, and the other on the lower part. Maybe you can do the individuals parts up to the part where you work the trunk, then join the pieces and knit the trunk in the round.

I don’t see any reason you couldn’t knit it in the round and sew it on. It is just a tapered tube sewn on, why make it the hard way?
