Is there anyone who is spanish speaker and had troubles reading patterns in english?
I learnt in “spanish” and sometimes I am stuck in a project because I dont understand it… 
Suggestions greatly appreciated… 
Can you rewrite a pattern into Spanish before you start a project to make it easier for you to read? That way you may save some time instead of stop…translate in your head…restart…stop again to think…start again…
I bet there are Spanish language sites and books out there for knitting too, I’ve just never looked for them!
I learnt the basics as a kid in Spanish and have being learning all the rest since last year from the Internet (hence 80% of it in English). So I kind of have the opposite problem. And I know I am not alone: most Spanish speaking knitbloggers feel the same.
It figures. On the one hand, there are very few resources in Spanish either on the net or in real life. On the other, there are so many ways to express one thing it is very confusing. I have counted 12 different ways to say “to knit”, at least 10 to say “yarn over”, about 8 to say “garter stitch” and so on.

This is highly topical! I was asked if I would help a woman in the village who is French with translating knitting patterns. Yesterday, I googled “french knit translation” and came up with several hits. There are translators for Spanish, Norwegian, German, Dutch, French and Russian, to name a few.
Try googling “spanish knit translation” and “knit translation” to see what you get. Or “knit translator”.
If all else fails, post it here and we’ll take a stab at it. I took four years of Spanish, two of German, I’m starting my second semester of French, and I try to pick up Italian along the way. Good luck!
Spanish is my first language, but I learned to knit in english. I have often considered spending some time to pick up the terms used in Spanish. It is funny how you can fluently speak one language, but you venture into a specialized topic like Knitting and it’s like you don’t speak the language anymore =). :XX:
My main problem comes when I read a pattern and I cant understand what it says… so far I have tried to leave those on a pile and go for those that I do… I remember when I first started knitting “in english” and didnt even know what “purl” meant…
I learnt how to knit “in spanish” with “El arte de tejer”, that was the book my mom bought every year… she came to visit a few months ago but with all the things she brought the 2005 book didnt make it to USA…

My aunts who knit have weird names [to my ears anyway] for things. I, too, learnt the basics in Spanish but taught myself to read patterns etc. in English.
I only knew derecho for knit and revez for purl. Oh, and I keep hearing bastas and panes, but I think the latter might be for crochet?
I love how Ganchillo illustrates crochet patterns so I’ve not even bothered to learn crochet in English. Tho, I do feel very limited when finding cool patterns and running to show mom. More pictures, people, then she can figure it out!
Now why can’t they just make knitting patterns as easy to read as Ganchillo makes crochet? I think I’ve seen where the Japanese do something similar?
