Hello - I am working on the sleeves for Sonja sweater but have picked up more stitches than the pattern stated likely because of my gauge. In the 4th short row repeat I need to turn at 6 stitches before end of round but I can’t achieve that due to my extra picked up stitches. Should I do extra short rows to adjust for it or follow the pattern?

How many more sts have you picked up than the pattern called for?
The idea of the short rows is to shape the sleeve at the shoulder rather than have the sleeve come straight out from the armhole opening.
I don’t understand why you can’t turn at 6sts before the end of round but it may help to know how many extra sts you have.
Thank you for replying! I picked up 80 instead of 72. So it’s okay to just purl until 6 stitches left without adjusting to the extra stitches?
Yes, in the end you want the extra fullness in the middle of the shoulder. It’s only 4 extra sts on each side so work to 6sts from the end as given in the pattern. Then follow the remaining short rows as written.

Either that or do one extra pair of short rows. The extra stitches make your cap a bit taller, so a couple of extra rows wouldn’t hurt.
