Socks

I just finished knitting my 1st pair of socks. I thought they came out fine…until I put them on. You know how the toe seam is supposed to go horizontally from one side of the foot to the other? Mine goes vertically. So, the toe is twisted. I followed the directions. I did two decreases on the “top of foot” needle and one decrease on each of the other needles. Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

:?? It sounds to me that maybe you were 1/4 of a round off? It can happen to lose track sometimes. Does your decreases follow the sides of your foot? If not, it means your stitches were probably not arranged the way you thought they would be. Otherwise it could simply be due to the way the stitches were arranged just before you started doing the kitchener stitch.

It shouldn’t be too hard to undo the seam and go back to where things start to go wrong. You should be able to try on the sock at this point, and this would help you to identify your stitches better. Make sure the decreases follow the sides of the foot, and that when you’re done decreasing both needles should follow your toes horizontally.

You’re almost there, keep at it!

Iza,

I think you’re right. Since I never knit socks before, I didn’t know how to line things up right (I’m afraid I still don’t know!). I will take the socks to a knitting store this weekend. The owner is very nice and loves to knit socks. She said she would help me. I’m so glad to know they can be fixed!

My husband is from Montreal. We lived in Verdun and Notre-Dame-de-Grace after we were married. We’re near Cape Cod now.

Merci,

Karen:p

Hi Karen,
That’s funny! :teehee: I rarely answer to questions, and I managed to choose someone who lived in Montreal. What are the odds? :teehee:

I’m sure they can give you good advice at the LYS. Once you understand the construction, socks are not difficult. And they’re so much fun to knit! :happydance:
