Sockintine Sock Swap!

Sockintine’s Day approacheth!!!

What is it, you ask? Why, it’s a sock swap in which you knit socks anonymously for another KH member!

Who can play? New knitters, experienced knitters—doesn’t matter. Everyone is welcome!

Signups will begin November 20 and will close December 16. Partner notifications will begin December 18. Socks should be mailed by Valentine’s Day.

Please note that the plan is not for you to begin knitting your socks during the holiday gift rush. Rather, the mid-December notification means that you will have time to consider your partner’s likes/dislikes and begin pattern searching /yarn selection before you need to start knitting.

I will post the questionnaire and registration info ASAP, but for now, here are the guidelines:

Sockintine’s Guidelines:

  1. If you do sign up for this swap, please remember that you have done so. It seems silly, I know, but sometimes people do forget such things.

  2. If time or financial constraints prohibit your participation after your signup, let me know ASAP.

  3. This is not about speed knitting. Knit at your own pace. This is particularly important for those of you who will be knitting with fingering-weight yarn. You have several weeks to complete your socks.

  4. Try to stick within the budget you have chosen for yourself, and this is particularly important if you plan on including other goodies for your partner. If you have chosen the $10 - $20 budget, then let $20 be your cap for everything, including sock yarn. This prevents people with tight budgets from feeling the need to overspend to match other participants’ more lavish gifts.

Extra goodies are not required, of course; I for one will be happy just to receive a pair of socks knit by another KH member!

  1. Your Sockintine’s giftie should be mailed by Valentine’s Day. Try not to mail too early (we don’t want anyone to feel pressured to knit quickly). There’s no need to rush shipment, either, if you find Valentine’s Day upon you, but you only have one sock completed. Just let your partner know there will be a delay. We’re all good people and realize that life happens when we least expect it.

:cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

Ooooh, I can’t wait!

Oh, I"m in.

deeknit

ooh… sounds like fun…

question… can the socks be ‘around the house’ chunkier yarn socks???

They can be if that’s what you want! :happydance:

I’m in too…

if you’ll have me…

Of course we’ll have you!!

I have a question or 2! You wrote
" Try to stick within the budget you have chosen for yourself, and this is particularly important if you plan on including other goodies for your partner. If you have chosen the $10 - $20 budget, then let $20 be your cap for everything, including sock yarn. Does this mean that we are going to select a $ that we want to spend and switch with a partner that also wants to spend said amt of $ like we did with the yarn swap?
Also, is one of the questions about which wt yarn we prefer? Like misstialouise asked about the chunkier wt yarn, some people may prefer fingering wt and not want chunkier wt yarn and vice-versa.

Just had to throw out these questions that were on the top of my head
I’m so excited that it’s not until after the 1st of the year…in which case, I’M SO IN :cheering: :cheering:

Thanks for being the hostess of such a wondrous swap :muah:

Yay, Becka, Her Highness the Sock Queen is joining us!!! :notworthy:

Yep, you’ll have several monetary amounts from which to choose; that way, everyone can participate according to his or her budget.

And yes, one of the questions is about yarn weight–from fingering weight to bulky, you’ll have the option to pick whatever weight socks you like.

Actually, I’ll make my next post the actual questionnaire so that everything is clearer. Off to finalize it! :out:

When I’m ready, I’ll provide info as to where this questionnaire should be sent–don’t post here. (Well, you can; you’ll just need to re-send the info to me later! ;))

I’m only posting this so that everyone has a clearer idea of how the swap works.

Sockintine’s Questionnaire

  1. What weight sock do you prefer?

(A) light (fingering weight)
(B) medium (DK/sport weight)
© heavy (worsted weight)
(D) chunky/bulky
(E) I’m easy! I’ll let my partner decide.

  1. What sock fiber do you prefer? (Consider here allergies to wool, aversion to acrylic footwear, need for non-wooly yarns owing to a warm climate, etc.)

  2. What are your color preferences? Are there any colors you refuse to wear, even on your feet?

  3. Will you wear funky, fair isle, or striped socks? Would you prefer textured solids–cables, lace, that kind of thing? Or…are you willing to throw caution to the four winds and let your partner’s creativity to determine the style of your sock?

  4. What is the length of your foot, from your longest toe to the back of your heel? (Stand on a tape measure to determine length–don’t measure a foot that isn’t planted firmly on the floor because the measurement will be waaaaay off.)

  5. Are your feet narrow/wide? Any other special instructions your knitter needs to know about your feetsies to ensure a proper sock fit?

  6. Since this is a Sockintines swap–just in time for Valentine’s Day–would you be horrified if hearts appeared on your socks somewhere?

  7. How much are you willing or able to spend on this swap? (Pick one)

(A) less than $10
(B) between $10 & $20
© between $20 and $30

  1. What kind of care for your socks–machine wash or hand wash?

  2. Anything else your partner needs to know about you?

I hope this list answers your questions! If there’s anything not on the questionnaire that you think should be, then please let me know!
