Sock yarn mittens...?

have any of you ever done mittens in sock yarn? i wanna make some with the fun funky stripey colors of sock yarn but i am not sure how they will come out if they will just be ridiculously thin.

i got in my car today and it was FINALLY freezing in there and i don’t like cold steering wheels. it is finally motivating me to consider trying mittens.

You could always knit them in a double layer…pick up sts around the top of the cuff (the side that’s closest to your fingers) and knit a second mitten to shove inside the first one?

I would say that they would be ridiculously thin otherwise…

ya that’s what i figgered. i need to find me a fun self stripey yarn that is thicker i think.

Knitpicks has some patterns for mittens and gloves using sock yarn. I haven’t tried any of the patterns so I can’t say how warm they would be.

There are times when I don’t want to wear a bulky mitten. I just want to keep my skin from freezing to the outside of the car. I think sock yarn mittens could be nice. Of course, I’m trying to get my felted mittens done before the next ice age hits…

I did my fingerless gloves with fingering wt yarn & they are as thick as I would wear them, of course Im in the south & really don’t need the thickness. Also, I used 100% wool & they are very warm. Personally, I like the wt of sock yarn as ‘hand fashion’ bc I don’t like anything heavy on my hands…but that’s just me
