Ive been reading over Silvers Sock tutorial…and I think I may be ready to jump in…
I bought DPNs in size 6 from Susan Bates, but they feel kind of tight in the size hole on the Boye gauge thing I got. I have a set of size 3s too, from Boye.
I also the “Knit Socks Whatever the Yarn” book.
Now…I have alot of Red Heart yarn just hanging around…I may think about practicing with that…
BUT…my question here is…
If I was to walk into Hobby Lobby…what would be the best recommended yarn for socks for a beginner like me who is tripping out about sock making?
I see you all posting about sock yarn here, and Ive looked, abut maybe I just cant see it? I havent seen any really lightweight yarn that I recognize. :??
I really like the Sugar and Cream for dishclothes…and I think I might be ready to spend some time in this here chair, following Silvers tutorial… :cheering:
Any thoughts, or recommendations? Even needle advice would be greatly appreciated. :notworthy:
Depending on where your Hobby Lobby store is, they may carry Lion Brand Magic Stripes. (It may be in the clearance rack.) I made my first socks from this, and it’s great. For non-wool sock yarn, I know some people have used Yarn Bee’s solid baby yarn. Personally, I would go for the wool blend if you can find it. Synthetic sock yarns are liable to make your feet sweaty, because wool wicks away any moisture.
Yeah, as psamm mentioned, synthetic yarn really isn’t all that great for socks. It makes your feet very sweaty and such.
But that’s never stopped me from knitting socks with Red Heart before, and giftingthem to friends. Since my measurements are usually a half inch off, peope like to look and bag that they have hand knit socks, but never wear them. :roflhard:
Hobby Lobby’s Sweet Delight baby yarn in solid colors is fairly thin, even though they call it worsted, and would be good for socks. They have a few dark colors as well as pastels and baby colors.
