Hello Everyone, Have you ever searched on the Net for hours and acquired a headache due to that and still haven’t found what you needed?
What I am looking for is a 2 needle, straight needle (what ever they are called! I’m so fried right now!) hat pattern.
I wish to create something however, I need the basics for a knit hat. It HAS to be knit from the top down as my brain simply can not
work backwards, at this moment in time.
Seriously, I know it can be done. :waah:

Here is one called One Flat Hat worked bottom up.
Another one called Ellen’s Hat from the SHIPS PROJECT worked bottom up.
Another one called Two Needle Baby Hat worked from the bottom up.
Working from the bottom up seems like it would be easier for a beginner than working from the top down as you would be decreasing instead of increasing as you go along. Look over the patterns and see what you think.

Here’s a pattern that can be knit flat or in the round, but from the bottom up.

Ok, I give up then. I will just try doing it and take longer to figure it out. No biggy.

Those are just a few top downs. It looks like there are a lot more out there. I typed [COLOR=“Red”]straight needle hat pattern top down[/COLOR] in Google.
There are quite a few patterns for straight needles on the Lion Brand Yarn site…check it out, I’ve made a ton of very easy hats from that site…lots of free patterns!
The hat pattern in the Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/Knitters-Handy-Book-Patterns-Interweave/dp/1931499047/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-9353318-1006561?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184944038&sr=8-1) can be done either with circulars or straights (with any size needles and any size yarn, for any size person, too). I love this book!
If these patterns aren’t right can you tell us what you are looking for then? :??
I bet we’re missing the top down part. I think this book http://www.amazon.com/Hip-Knit-Hats-Fabulous-Designs/dp/1579906443/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-9353318-1006561?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184952130&sr=8-1 does top-down hats, but they’re knit in the round, using dpns, at least to begin with.
Can you just reverse the process for any 2-needle hat? Cast on X, inrease in all stitches the first row, etc. and end with your ribbed or rolled brim?
