So when is it an addiction?

I went to my lys today with three goals:

  1. to get dps for the Compassionate KAL
  2. to get yarn for the compassionate KAL
  3. to get the interweave knits magazine with that awesome pattern in it.

I left after buying ten skeins of yarn, three sets of needles, and the magazine. I spent more money than I care to admit to. And I’m not even sure the yarn I bought will work for the pattern I want to use it with, I just liked it so I bought it anyways.

I repeat, when is it an addiction?

PS, nobody tell my future husband that I did this, mmmk?

Okay, so read back over your post and realize that the minute you opened the door of the LYS, you were going to get high on fiber (alpaca is like heroin). Places like Michaels and Joanns only deal in “gateway drugs” (like eyelash or Red Heart).

You could not help spending the money. DFiance probably won’t notice unless a) he keeps a sharp eye on your finances or b) a huge load of yarn falls out of the closet onto his head.

Turn around…see that line about 50 yards back? yeah that’s the addiction line…and it felt like soft fuzzy alpaca when you crossed it!

I would tell future hubby that you and your yarn are a package deal. If he wants you then he has to love your yarn too. Knitting is just like a child. It demads attention and cant be seperated from its mommy!

Besides - knitting is more of a disease than an addiction. (no quibbling that addictions are diseases) There is no cure, and only one treatment.
While your disease is not covered by health insurance. There are no doctor bills either. Just the cost of the treatment its self.
You could have a real heroin addiction, or gambling, or have a fetish for sports cars, fur coats or electronics. So really your treatment costs are small and insignifgant compared to what they could be. And FAR cheaper than a therapist.

“high on fiber” “gateway drug” oh stop, y’all are killing me :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

hello… my name is… and i’m a junkie

i just went away for a “ski” wk/end in vermont and didnt ski… instead the highlight of my trip, which should have been the slopes or the bars…(and there WERE some entertaining moments in the bars) was the fact that i got to go to an actual LYS (i’m from queens, ny, we just dont have any LYS’s)… AND to top it off, they were closing their doors after almost 50 years of business and i got to get in there before they did their final inventory… yeah… so ya wanna talk about a fix… i’m slapping my veins w/enough yarn for two baby blankets, heaven KNOWS how many scarves (two in mind for my aunt & dbf’s moms bday)… AND (and this is the kicker) started my friend on her first scarf (thats right folks… peer pressure) & she’s half way thru… HAH

oh & the dbf… got the call right afterwards… i was so excited he thought i was near tears (shhhh dont tell him, i WAS) hah

they say the hardest part is admitting the problem… hah… that’s half the fun here!

I have been trying to behave and not let my stash get to big. We live in a townhouse and there just isn’t a lot of storage room…but it is getting harder and harder. Then my husband has to “help” keep me from getting addicted. He asked me to make him a scarf so I took him to the LYS to pick out the yarn/color he wanted. Once I’d picked it up and headed to the counter the silly silly man said “don’t you want to look around and see if there is anything else you want?”

I’m telling you - I almost had whiplash! I had done some serious damage in the very same store on Saturday and here he is offering to let me look around more!!! I’ll admit I wanted to buy yarn for a felted bag, but I snuck in another pair of Addi Turbos instead - I told him I “needed” them to knit his scarf - he doesn’t realize how lucky he is that it is all I bought!

Like someone else mentioned (probably in a different thread)…knitting/yarn is an addiction, but I’m happy that my addiction is cheaper (so far) than my husband’s stereo addiction!

Enjoy your high everyone!

When is it an addiction!?? Well, at my house the time is NOW! But this is a funny kind and friendly group of addicts, isn’t it. ;0) Think I’ll stay. samm

For me, it was the moment I said "I am going to teach myself to knit"
Badaboom… another junkie stat

Hah, I think that happened to me, too.

When I got compulsive about finding a knitting class for my 8yo Daughter so I wouldnot have to miss any more knitting groups due to her poor behavior from being bored

THAT was my headlong fall into admitting I had a Problem, and was manipulating my Environment to acomidate my Addiction

ecb

My life has yet to become unmanageable, but my stash seems to be!

I know I have a problem when I start to breath/pant heavily. Just reading this thread is making me hyperventilate.

I laughed at myself when I found myself sitting on the toilet casting on …enough said. I am totally addicted. It so relaxing and fun!

Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that! :roflhard:
