So frustrated! How do I bind off in rib?

I have been making these booties, and trying to retain the stretch, and after I bind off, I can’t get them over my ankle, I tried binding off while retaining the rib pattern, and can’t get any method that retains stretch, Please help!

I just used this bind off for a pair of toe up socks. It’s for a K2 P2 rib so adjust the number of stitches to match your rib:

[ul]
[li]On the row before you bind off: K2, M1, P2, M1 around. [/li][li]Bind off in pattern, but do not knit the M1 stitches— only slip them. [/li][*]When you get to the last stitch, pick up one stitch from across the gap and use that to bind off the last M1 stitch. [/ul]

I’ve not tried this but I have it saved in my “hints”. They call it a yarn over bind off and it is supposed to be very stretchy.

Knit the first stitch.

  1. Yarn over
  2. Lift the knitted stitch up over the yarn over and off the needle.
  3. Knit the next stitch.
  4. Lift the yarn over up and over the knit stitch and off the needle.
Repeat these four steps until all stitches from the left needle are gone.

You can do this making a yarn over after every two or three stitches, instead of after every stitch to adjust the stretchiness.
