i really like the SnB newsboy cap, but i know you can only get the pattern if you buy the book!!! my mom probably wouldnt let me buy it though, because of the name and i dunno, is there any patterns that are pretty much similar to it?? thanks!!!
I found this one the other day.
I saw it on a blog, and it looked great, much better than the pattern pictures. And it’s free! She did say though that Row 2 was in error, and that you should K1, (p12,k1) to get it right, I think… And I am so Not sure about that.
I’ve been searching for the blog. argh. I bookmarked it thinking that when I made it I would be able to see what she was talking about… Maybe Ingrid (or someone) can look over the pattern and see what she meant.

It does look like a great hat though, and I am going to give it a try, when I get some of these projects done.
This pattern has a mistake in it. If you plan to have your cap contain the nicely placed little ridgies before you decrease for the cap’s crown, you need to reverse the second row instructions so that the purls follow the purls and the knits follow the knits

ahhhh im still set on the cabled one from snb!!! would it be illegal if someone who has the book emailed the pattern to me??? is that breaking the law??? like, its pretty much the same if you had the book and if you were my best friend, let me borrow it right??? is that ruining any copyrights??? welll, well see.
What about the library?? That’s where I first got a chance to look at the book.
well, maybe…but it may or may not be there, and i do not go to the public library oftten because our school has a library and i know it would not be there, AGAIN because of the name. ERRGGGGGHH!!! they should rename it.

I don’t know about the copyright stuff, but really you should check with your local public library – if they don’t have the book in currently, I’m sure they’d be able to call you when it comes in. At least that’s how it works here. Good luck!
my local library has both SnB books, it can’t hurt to call and ask them! It would be illegal for someone to email you the pattern from the book… it’s a bummer, but that’s copyright law! Maybe if you sit down with your mom and tell her all about how SnB Nation is all about knitting, how positive, etc etc she may be more accepting of letting you get it! My mom was pretty strict when I was young, but she was always very encouraging of my crafting hobbies!
I got my pattern for the SnB newsboy cap at the library. If you’re really embarrassed to do a search by name over the phone (maybe it’s at another library and you can have them deliver it to your library?), you may be able to have them do a search by ISBN number; you can say, “I’d like to know if you have a knitting book in stock, but I only have the ISBN”. Believe it or not, when I did this at my local libary, the librarian got a little indignant when I told them the title–like I named it! The ISBN is 0761135901. I didn’t want to bring this book home not so much for my parents as my kids…I was a bit embarrassed they’d see the title and wonder what I was reading! So I just made a copy of the pattern at the library while I was there. I thus also avoided the notorious late charge I always seem to acrue! :oops:
As a parent myself, I know that if my children showed me something that had a questionable title and I saw that it was an innocent product (like in this case, it’s really just a knitting book), I’d be more apt to agree with them to check it out. You’re right…it is a shame the book has profanity in the title. 
Maybe if your mom could accompany you to the library so she could check out the book, she’d feel more confident about you checking it out?
