I’m working on one for a new grandnephew due in June. It’s 20" wide and I want it to be “lived with” and “huggable”.
So…how long should it be. It’s just a little more than square so far.
I guess that would work for a car seat blanket or just a lovey. I’d say 24" or 25" would be good. Been a long time since I had little ones in the car!
I’m currently on a ‘toddler blankey’ kick, and mine are 32 by 42 inches at least. I want them to last well into their toddler years. But if it’s just for the car, maybe 24" by 30" would do? You will have to decide for yourself, according to your own judgment of what it’s for, how long it will last.
Some people knit small ones for diaper-changing. My mini-cat (5 years old, weighs 9 pounds) loves small squares to sit and lie on.
Carseat Blanket this one is 19" x 23" and this one is 20" x 24". Seems the average is 20" x 24".

I would never have thought about putting a “seatbelt hole” in a blanket…hmmmm:think:
