Sl1p wyib, p1

Hi! I’m working on the Johanne Cardigan by Knitting for Olive and I’m stuck on an instruction.

I’ve just knit the neckband together and now I am on the WS and my instruction is this: “Edge sts on WS rows: Sl1p wyib, p1…”
I can’t find anything online about starting a row like this, and I just want to make sure I’m doing it right.

So what I’ve figured is that I bring my yarn to the back, slip the stitch purlwise (the stitch is a purl stitch) and then bring my yarn back through my needles to the front to purl the next stitch.

My confusion here is that it brings the legs of the stitch from the previous row forward onto my needle as if I was knitting a short row. Is this how it’s supposed to work and I just work those two legs together on my next row?

The next row has me working that stitch with the exact same instructions on the RS, sl1p wyib, p1.

Thank you so much for any tips!

Welcome to KH!

When you begin the WS row are you bringing the yarn to the back under the left hand needle? If you bring the yarn to the back over the left hand needle, slip, then bring the yarn to the front to purl that can cause the slipped stitch to look like a German short row double stitch.

I was bringing it over! Bringing it under seemed to fix it! Thank you so much!! For some reason doing it that way is not intuitive for me. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for your help!!!
