Sl 1, k 1, psso, turn?

I am knitting a hoody baby sweater. I have knitted 5 1/2" up from the neck ribbing, creating the hood. I now need to create the top & sides of the hood. Instructions state: Work across 33 sts, sl 1, k 1, psso, turn. Then Row 1: Sl 1, work 18 sts, p2 tog. turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, work 18 sts, sl 1 k 1, passo, turn…I’m confused on this…turn? Does this mean turn around and knit back the other way?
Thanks,
Cindy

Yep, turn as if you were at the end of the row and work back across the sts you just did. This is going to shape the hood.

Hey there! :waving:

This looks like “short row shaping” and suzeeq’s right, it will shape the hood in a cup shape, just like turning the heel on a sock (if you’ve ever knit a sock).

I know it sounds a little crazy when you first read it, but if you just take a leap of faith and DO IT you’ll be amazed and happy!

Let us know how it goes!

Happy knitting,

Ruthie

That sounds funny but is true! Just dare to trust the instruction. Sometimes that leads into misery, sometimes it brings you to the summit! Here it will work out.

When turning, work the next stitch that you work relatively tight… just no dangly lose. (don’t jam it, either). That will prevent holes (but you already have a slipped stitch at the corner of the new row, that will help as well.)
