Single crochet on neck of sweater

I finished knitting and seaming the sweater for my MIL, but now I have to add a single crochet to the neckline. Does anyone know of a video that can show me how to do this? My Stitch 'N Bitch handbook only teaches to me to make a chain then do a single crochet on it.

I am stumped!

I don’t know of any video, sorry. But I would just treat the neckline edge as a chain, stick the hook in anywhere, and single crochet evenly around.

Yeah, that is what I figured I would do too. Thanks for the reassurance!

When you are doing the single crochet, insert your hook into both loops of your bound off edge, and then follow the instructions you have. You will notice that after you’ve done the sc edge, that the top looks similar to the way the bind off looks. Stitchguide used to have a video of sc, but it’s been absorbed into the Annie’s Attic site. If you can find your way around in that mess they have {I can’t!}, you should find it in the crochet section.

Bound off knitting looks like little v’s if you look at the edge from straight on.

Just stick your hook under the two loops of the V and pull up your yarn, stick it under the next V and pull up again. Pull through the two loops on your hook. Single crochet as you would normally. If there is a gap once you get back around the neckline, you could connect the first and last stitches with a slip stitch.
