There are a few machine knitters here and they may be offer some advice. I’ve seen a recommendation to move the carriage very slowly to make it go more smoothly.

Hi and welcome!

Salmonmac hit the number 1 reason on the head, move smoothly, and slowly, especially if you’re new to machine knitting. Every machine has its own “feel” and it can take a little time to get that feel down. But it should never be hard to push.

Some common things that can cause a hard to push carriage could be:

A worn out sponge bar won’t hold the needles in the correct position for the carriage to move properly, this causes the carriage to run into the needles instead of glide over them. So that’s one thing to check.

Another that no one really talks about is static electricity. As you use the machine, static will develop. When this happens, it attracts lint and dust that makes the carriage hard to push. You can try wiping down your needle bed with a dryer sheet to both clean and remove the static.

Also, from time to time lubricating the needles bed with a silicone based lube spray such as Easy Knit Spray may be necessary. A little of this goes a long way. Ovespraying will just cause dust in the air to stick to your needle bed. :ick:

Of course I haven’t mentioned a misaligned or broken carriage. :zombie: Let’s not go there.

I know there are many Yahoo forums dedicated to machine knitting. You could try searching those too, for more information.
