Hi! I have some Silk Essence 100% silk yarn, one ply. I have never worked with either of those and want to knit a simple asymmetrical shawl, no lacework. I’m considering using two strands to give the shawl more body. Is that a good idea? Thanks!
It’s best to do a big enough gauge swatch with the needles you’ll be using, before starting, and see if you like the fabric and drape you end up with - most people also recommend blocking the swatch (especially if you plan to wash the item) as some kinds of yarn can change size a lot after being washed and left to dry, but it isn’t always necessary.
If you don’t block, you could pull the swatch out again and reuse the yarn in the actual project.
Excellent idea, I’ll try it! Thanks!
Good luck sounds like a lovely project!
Is it this yarn you have?

You might like to look at what others have made with it to see the needle size and the effect it has on the fabric. It might give you an idea what it will look like.
