I’m knitting the all in one cardigan up until it measures 8cm for the 2nd size. I’m confused when it says divide for the back and fronts. At the end of the row I have too many stitches. Am I only supposed to be working on the first part of the cardigan?
Welcome to KH!
Maybe this pattern?
It looks from this project as though it’s knit bottom up (see the last photo). Is that correct?
What do you mean by “the first part of the cardigan”?
If that all makes sense then this is a pattern where you knit up to the underarms and then divide for the fronts and back.
How many sts do you have on the needles total?
How are they divided for your size into fronts and back?
Usually at this point you would be asked to make the sleeves and once made they are joined to the needle holding fronts and back.
Sorry for all the questions but just trying to understand.
I’m stuck with the dividing for sides and back. I have 121 stitches for the 2nd size. When I follow the instructions I have too many stitches left at the end of the row.
Somewhere in knitting the body you’ve either cast on a larger number of sts or increased more than the pattern required. Did you have the same number of sts after the lace border as you cast on or are there increases in error there. Your numbers are closer to the 3rd or even 4th size.
Before you begin this row, dividing fronts from back you should have about 97sts. There’s 2 decreases and the bind off of 6sts will leave one stitch on the right needle after the bind off each time.
See if you can account for the extra sts in knitting the body of the sweater. It may help to circle the size you’re making to make sure you don’t inadvertantly read the wrong number.
Thank you. I can see my error now.
That’s good news. Whatever you decide to do next, we’re with you along the way. It’s a darling sweater and worth the effort.
