Anyone else have problems with the glare on shiny needles? Am I weird? I’ve pretty much quit using metal needles (include KP Options), because the glare hurts my eyes.
I’m not using a really bright light, but the glare starts to bother me after too long. And by bother, I mean it is almost painful.
There are lots of other needles that I can use, so it isn’t really a problem. I Denise needles, so this works out fine for me. I’m just curious if anyone else has this problem.
I have that problem and have to use indirect lighting when I knit. My problem is caused by a slight separation of the lens of the eye after years of “optic” migraines. I also have a degeneration of the muscle that controls focus and dialation in my right eye, so I usually knit semi-dark and blurry!
I have that sometimes too, i think of it was a time to just take a break from knotting for a few mins. but i usually put colorful duck tape on the remaining portion of my needles. lol , crazy right, but it works!, wasted good duck tape tho, oh well!
I sometimes have that problem when I’m knitting outside, but I never do inside, because my lamp isn’t that bright. I do have to stop knitting after a while when I’m outside, though.
I’ve never had that problem with knitting needles, but I had it with a crochet hook. My one and only crochet project involved 169 granny squares, which I completed within a 2 week period. The hook was gold, and left a little bright spinning spot in my vision for months after! It finally went away, but I honestly thought it might be permanent.
I don’t know why it doesn’t happen when I knit. Maybe because I know what I am doing (unlike w/crochet) so I don’t stare as intently at the needles? Dunno.
Just yesterday I was doing a BO using DMC Pearl thread on 1mm needles. Tiny thread on toothpicks, basically.
PLUS…!!!
Red metal needles and red thread…You get the picture…it wasn’t pretty. I thought I was going cross-eyed trying to see the stitches. Before beginning a similar project, I will in the future consider needle/thread contrast.
I have this light glare problem also. Had cataract surgery and opted to have presbyopia also fixed along with my nearsightedness. It’s great gaving 20/20 vision without glasses. (Why they couldn’t have done this when I was 20!). But one side effect is light glare. Not usually a problem. But when I switched to metal tipped knitting needles for my Genesis Shawl, I have way too much glare with the light shining on my work. Anyone found solution like some kind of light bulb that doesn’t cause so much glare? I love these medle needles and also love a light shining on my work. Guess I gave to give up one or the other. Less someone has solution I haven’t thought of.
When I first started knitting after years of crochet, a friend loaned me several different needles to try. I don’t have any vision problems, but the glare off of the Addis was SO BRIGHT! I prefer the feel of wood anyway, so have stuck with wood or bamboo needles.
