I’m looking for patterns that are relatively easy and I’m okay with ones i have to purchase. I just want to add some new looks to my repertorie.

I mostly knit hats, but there are some nice crocheted ones out there. I assume you’ve already looked on Ravelry???

Thank you for sharing that video. I will definitely try that pattern. I’m comfortable with the double crochet (the hat pattern I’m working on now is strictly single crochet stitches) so it will be fun to try.
Yes, I’m a self-taught knitter, but I took a class at my LYS to learn to crochet (mainly just to do edges for my knitted blankets). However, a co-worker who crochets got me hooked (no pun intended!) on hats.
I was actually in the middle of knitting an afghan when I got the bug to work on a crochet project. I’m on my second hat (it’s all single crochet stitches) but I really want to add some new patterns since I’m in love with crochet right now.
I spent all last night looking at ravelry but I thought I would ask the lovely people here in case there was a really great (easy) pattern that someone would offer up.

The gal didn’t mention the hook size in the video. My daughter and I think it’s about a K 6.5 mm hook. I tried this last night on worsted weight yarn and it’s about right. If you’re using bulky weight, you may go up to maybe an 8 mm. I believe that’s a size N in Boye hooks. The sizing for my Bates hooks run a little differently that large. Their N is a 9 mm,don’t know why. So the Bates 8 mm is an L or M hook. I’m visiting at my daughter’s so of course left the majority of my set at home can’t check for sure.
my go to hat pattern is simple. start by ch 2, work 6 hdc in first ch, place marker for end of round, next round (hdc in first hdc, then 2 hdc in next hdc), repeat around move marker to last st made; next round (hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around move marker to last st, continue in this manner (3 hdc, 2hdc in next st, increase # of hdc in hdc’s by one around followed by 2 hdc in the next st) until you reach the circumference of the person’s head, then simply begin hdc in every hdc until you have reached the desired length of the sides of the hat.

I have made three of these. I have used various yarns with it. I have also used darker colors and made a couple for my husband and stepson. It’s my go-to hat, this winter. It’s a fun pattern.
