Shaping a neckline

Hello everyone!

I got distracted by a few baby sweaters and a Joey Ramone doll this summer and am back working on my own sweater from Vogue’s “knit1” magazine - the summer '06 art issue. (if you have it, it’s the one on p. 36).

:wall:

I’ve made most of the back, but keep getting stuck on these neckline shaping directions:

Work 24 sts…bind off center 14 sts, knit to end. Change to smaller needles. Next (inc) row (WS). Working in k3, p3 rib, inc 8 sts evenly across sts on each side - 32 sts. Cont in rib…

Here’s my confusion: if I’ve bound off the middle 14 sts, then how the heck do I bridge the gap between the two sides?? Do I just work straight through and then cut the thread and weave it in later?

Help!

It’s not as complicated as your solution. Just use a second ball of yarn for the shoulder without yarn. You’ll have one strand for each side.

light bulb goes on. thank you so much! it’s amazing how i can just think PAST the answer.
