Sewing a button onto a knitted item?

I am knitting the Simple Baby Bib pattern linked to on this site.

At the end, you’re supposed to sew a button onto the bib for the strap. :??

How does one do this? My tapestry needle won’t go through any normal buttons, will it? Yet I can’t feed yarn onto a normal needle, can I?

Do I just use matching sewing thread to sew it on?

i would probably just use embroidery thread…like some DMC floss.

And for reinforcement on the back side of the button, use a bit of felt or other fabric similar to the color of the yarn, so you’ll have fabric scrap, yarn, then button layered together.
