I want to make a small blanket for a baby. I brought the Bernat baby sport yarn,It suggests to use a 4mm, By the time I knit this with that size needle the baby will be two! Any suggestions on another needle size I could use? :knitting:
Are you using a pattern and does it call for sport weight yarn? What needle size does it recommend?
You could try a larger needle size and see if you like the knit fabric. The needle size given on the ballband is only a suggestion anyway.
You might also consider buying more yarn and working with two strands held together. That way you could go up to about a 5 or 5.5mm needle.
ust wanted to say what an AMAZING website.
I started knitting in the spring and I absolutely love it. But since I am a beginner I have alot of questions that can’t always be answered by looking in a book. Thank you thank you thank you for the videos!!

A4mm needle is a size 6 American. I am currently using a size 6 to knit a baby sweater , it was suggested in the pattern . I got the gauge with it so I am using it. Baby blanket knitted with a size 6 needle takes maybe two weeks if knitting on it every day for an hour or so.

I agree with salmonmac on this one!!! If you’ve got some variegated yarn, buy some solid colored to match it and use them both together!! I’ve done that before with size 11 or 13 needles.
OR you could use 2 matching solid colors together. Either one would look very nice.

Hate to be a pain but, I don’t want to make a crib blanket maybe like a little throw type thing. I started with 80 stitches and it was so small, How many would you suggest…Sorry I’m still new at knitting :knitting:
I agree with you, The women on this forum are SO talented and extremely nice and very helpful !
Are you using a pattern or do you just want to wing it? If you want to wing it you might try an over-sized Grandmother’s Favorite Dish Cloth and just work increases until you are either almost halfway through your yarn and then start decreasing or until you reach the size you think will be about half of what your blanket to be. Garter stitch makes a nice blanket, this is very easy, and it works up relatively fast. If you want you could double your yarn and use larger needles.
My idea of a fairly quick gift that would still impress most people: “You knit that? Wow!” Kind of like a loaf of homemade bread will impress most people but it is so easy.
