Seed stitch

I understand how to do seed stitch but I have an even amount of stitches and it doesn’t look like seed stitch . Am I doing something wrong?

I’ve never tried seed stitching, but I think you need an odd number of stitches, and start every row with a knit stitch in order for it to “work”. There’s probably a video demonstrating it, either on this site, or try www.hookedonneedles.com, or even youtube. Good luck!

You can working on any number of stitches. Just as long as you knit above a purl stitch & visa versa.

I have an even number of stitches and I need to do seed stitch for the border. I know what to do but It doesnt look like seed stitch. Do I need to start my second row with a purl?

I like to think of a seed stitch as a 1x1 rib where you knit the purls and purl the knits.

An even number of stitches should work, if you always start the rows with a knit stitch. If I’m knitting scarves or dishclothes, I like to plan it this way so I don’t have to think about what I’m doing too much.

K P K P K P (even number)

Then on the next row, you want to knit the purl stitch, so you again start with the K.

Hi Sis, I merged the two thread together since they are about the same stitch.

Seed stitch can be worked on even and odd stitches…If it is even sts then it would like this:

  • K1, P1, all the way across*…next row P1, K1, all the way across…

Odd would be K1, P1, K1 repeat across

No, then you get ribbing… When you end with a purl stitch, it becomes a K on the next row, so when you knit it, that makes a rib.

I knit a pair of seed stitch socks once. Took me a bit to catch on, so I know how you feel. Don’t give up though. Once it is complete you will love the look!
