Seed stitch in-the-round gauge swatch?

have my eye on this cowl done in-the-round with seed stitch:

i like how the seed stitch almost makes it look like it was done with one of those skinny/thick/uneven yarns…

i’ve watched the video here (and a few others online) about in-the-round gauge swatching. i’m just wondering if it’s usually necessary for something done in seed stitch, or… is that such a basic stitch that a 2-needle flat gauge swatch would be adequate?

thanks in advance

For a cowl, I think you could fake it. As long as you’re pretty close on gauge, a little larger or smaller shouldn’t hurt.

Does this mean you’re doing purls?

i’m spastic but practicing. can’t find a good way yet. i just find it incredibly awkward, and have to make very slow, deliberate motions, nothing fluid. but at least the seed stitch is mindless enough to practice 5 minutes at a time…

 Good for you! Seed stitch looks really nice and IMO is more forgiving than some other patterns involving purls. It took me the longest time to get so I could purl reasonably well, I had to wrap the stitch backwards to be able to pull it through without dropping it off the needle - I knit Continental and don’t know whether that would make a difference English style - but I finally got it. Hang in there and you’ll eventually get it. I’m so glad you’ve not given up.
