I am finishing up this sweater and don’t understand the final instructions for the shoulders and neckline. Can someone out there help me with this?
Is this your pattern?
Once you place the markers you can seam the sleeve top or cap between those markers for both right and left sleeves. Then fold the sweater at the shoulders so that the fronts and back hang down as you would if you were folding the sweater to put it on a shelf or as it would hang on a hanger.
Seam the back to the front at the side and continue the seam down the sleeve to the cuff. Do this on both the right and left sides.
For all the seaming mattress stitch will work well. Do you need a link to how to mattress stitch or are you familiar with it?
First the shoulders. Looking at the right side of both the front and back align the shoulder seams. I usually tack in place with a few pieces of embroidery thread before seaming. Then mattress stitch each shoulder from neck opening to the outer shoulder.
There’s also a faux graft you might like to use at the shoulder, it looks very nice and is a little softer than a full mattress stitch seam. It’s basically the same as mattress stitch but each stitch is snugged up to the size of the fabric stitches rather than “zipping up” the mattress stitch firmly. You might want to try it. Let us kjiwnf you want a link to a tutorial.
Yes, GrumpyGramma, that is my pattern. I understand now seaming the sweater, but don’t quite understand the instructions for picking up the stitches for the collar. Do you know of a tutorial for doing that? Thank you!
Here’s a video for picking up stitches around a collar. A 16 inch circular needle works well for this.
And here’s a tutorial about picking up sts in general.
This is perfect. Thank you!
Sounds like you’re almost finished, I hope you’ll share a photo, the pattern looks lovely.
