Scarf pattern has me stumped

okay scarfs should be easy lol here’s where i’m stumped

patterern reads:

co. 2 stiches
increase 1 st in each of the 2 sts (4sts)

[U]beginning diagonal section[/U]
row 1: K1, M1, k to last st, M1 K1
Row 2 Knit.
repeat tows 1&2 untill you have 24sts

okay i get cast on 2 sts but how do you do two M1 with only 2 sts?
beginning diagonal section i understand row 1. but when it asks for row 2 to be knit do they mean purl all stitches on the (ws) or do they actually want you to knit all sts?

When an increase is [B]in[/B] st you do a knit front and back increase into it. So CO 2, kfb, kfb - now there’s 4. Then when you do Row 1, you do the M1s. For row 2 you knit all sts, then you have garter stitch.
