My nanny has been having dialysis for awhile now. She doesn’t feel so good afterward and she feels cold. So I wanted to knit her a nice comfy warm scarf that’s easy to get off with winter coming up. (HELLO, CANADA! =D)
So I need suggestions for a warm, soft scarf which will be easy to take off so she can get it off without much help when she gets home and goes to lay down. (Oh, and something machine washable would be a good help, too, so nothing with fibers that don’t like that, please.)
When I meant something easy to get off, I meant something that wasn’t like a lot of lace or made from any material which might catch on itself. (I’ve only knitted with acrylics, so I don’t know if any might or not …)
Here’s a site with scarf patterns. You can look through the patterns, find one you like and think matches your ability and go at it There’s a lot of really nice patterns that aren’t lacy and delicate. Maybe a simple ribbed scarf with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn with some larger sized needles? That would be warm, easy to care for, easy to take off and just throw on the couch if you wanted and a quick knit
I’'m doing a scrunchable scarf that is EASY! It’s in multiples of three stitches. You knit two and purl one on both sides. You end up with a column of knit, one of purl, and one mixed. On big needles it goes fast and it’s squishy. If you want fancy, Feather & Fan is very simple.
I hadn’t thought of a shawl instead of a scarf for my nanny. This shawl seems like it’ll be nice and warm for her. I picked up an acrylic/alpaca blend which should be soft and warm. (I couldn’t find any of the Lion Brand yarn suggested, so I got the next best thing I could find.)
I’m excited to start on it tomorrow, though I might shorten it up. Since my nan’s gotten sick the various times, she’s a stick of a thing and FIVE FEET of a shawl might be too big.
