SAFF 2007 (NC Fiber Fair) was WONDERFUL!

Well, I guess this is as good a time as any to talk about SAFF.

I go every year, and always have a BLAST!
There are lots of yarn vendors, spinning displays, fiber animals, and cool classes.

Two years ago, I took “Beginning Knitting”, and learned some things I didn’t already know.

Last year, I took “Beginning Spinning”, and learned how to make better yarn. (see me there on the back row?)

It always falls on hubby’s birthday (the 27th). Last year was his 35th so we had a party and I couldn’t go to SAFF. This year, I’m going to beg, whine, moan, whimper until he says I can go. And I am not above a temper tantrum If needed!

DROOL!:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

sooo many pretty colors, i wish i lived in North Carolina 2q i would love to go there, but that’s like 300 or so miles away

Oh Kristin, I hope you can make it! I would LOVE to meet you!

:psst: I’m trying to convince Angelia to come and take classes on dyeing!
It would be wonderful to have a group of KHers there!

OOOOO! Something on a weekend AND in Western NC! It’s on my calendar. Thank you Sandy!!! :muah:

Woo Hoo! I’ll finally get to meet you! :happydance:

sounds like fun… how cool. i don’t know of any fiber festivals here… (pac NW) i think there is one in portland, but i just missed it. maybe next year …

I just wish they were little closer to other us SE folks… I live way west of NC and I can’t seem to make it b/c of the long distance involved…
Is it always gonna be at NC… it was there last year too wasn’t it?

SAFF is sooooooooooo much fun! Its always in Ashville, NC. Its such a great place to visit though. You might be able to talk the hubby into going if he knows there is lots of stuff for him as well. Not only at SAFF, but in Asheville.

Bars, Hookah bars, Cereal Bars, Music, funky shops, great eateries… entertainment and much much more.

My fav… places in downtown Asheville
Chocolate Fetish
Earth Guild
Just being out on the street
Eaties Cereal Bar… Its just to funky not to make the list
Hannah Flannagan’s Irish Pub
Jack of the Wood (Greenman pub)
Hookah Joes

Just outside downtown
Biltmore House

Shandeh, I would totally love to meet up with you and do SAFF together! Well with everyone!! A KH SAFF get-together, anyone?

I’m going to do what I can to make sure I go, but don’t hold your breath, ok? It’s a long drive and I don’t like driving long distances myself, and I don’t have any knitting buddies near by, so I have to convince hubby to take me. I don’t know how thrilled he’ll be about that. lol If not hubby, MAYBE my mom will go with me…
(I feel like such a kid. LOL)

I will be there. Maybe we should start researching hotels in the area to help any long distance khers out? i know i won’t want to drive up and back everyday. it is about an hour and a half for me.

Here is a list of logging by neighborhood if anyone is interested.

Edited to add: Or a list by accommodation type

Cool! Let’s make it a get-together then!

All we need to do is decide where we want to stay. Asheville should be gorgeous that time of year, with beautiful fall leaves, so we’d better reserve rooms NOW, before they fill up!

Here is the main website for the Western NC AG Center.
http://www.ncagr.com/markets/facilit/agcenter/western/index.htm

Their address is posted on that site, for looking up driving directions. (1301 Fanning Bridge Rd, Fletcher, NC)

Here is the Google Map I looked up for that address.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1301+Fanning+Bridge+Rd,+Fletcher,+NC&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=29.578161,59.238281&ie=UTF8&ll=35.438995,-82.520199&spn=0.0593,0.1157&z=13&om=1

Fletcher is the place we might want to look for accomodations, just to make travel easy. There is a small airport nearby - I’m not sure if it lands big planes. (Asheville Regional Airport) If anyone flies in, they could probably take a small plane to that spot.

Here is a map I just detailed that shows the place where SAFF is held:

If you have lots of bucks, and want a VERY NICE room, this place looks FANCY-SCHMANCY!!! http://www.chateauonthemountain.com/

If you want to make it a get-away with your SO, this place fits the bill. http://www.bbonline.com/nc/tudorhouse/index.html

Here are some more B&B’s for that area:
http://www.bbonline.com/nc/fletcher.html

If you want to bring your dog(s), here’s a place you can stay together: http://www.barkwells.com/

Budget-minded folks (like me) will want to stay at the Days Inn or Econo Lodge or Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn

shandeh~
how much do the classes usually cost? or even a guesstimate…

Classes cost $10 per hour. So if your class is 2 hours, it’s $20. If it’s 1.5 hours, it’s $15. Sometimes, there is an additional fee for materials.

Here’s the workshop listing:
http://www.saffsite.org/index.php?page=workshops_workshopsclasses.htm

I will certainly be there. My family and I divide our time between Cullowhee NC, primarily, and Asheville, secondarily. We are house-hunting in Asheville right now. By October we should be reasonably settled in to something quasi-permanent.

I’m sort of new to the forum…what exactly would constitute a KH get-together during this event?

Welcome, MrsDavis3!

I’m not sure what our get-together will involve, but I’m sure we’ll think of something cool, with all us fun KHers involved in the planning!

I’m just looking forward to seeing everyone, and sitting and knitting together! Maybe we can find a big room at a hotel where we can congregate!

Very tempting! I have a sister who lives in Fletcher so may be a good excuse to visit  Just a little concerned that I am new enough to knitting that LYSs still overwhelm and confuse me right now - can’t imagine dealing with everything there! Might enjoy it more if I waited until next year ? I’ll have to think about this one…
