Running stitches confusion

Hello ! I want to knit this bear:

http://www.barddance.org/knittering/bluesbighugbear.htm

but before I start I have one question.

The pattern says:

Create ears by running stitches across the corner at each side of the head.

What does that mean ?

Thank you !

Once you are done your bear, you will simply ‘create’ ears wherever you think they look good by sewing (with yarn, I am assuming) stitches straight across like this --------. I think you will want to have an ear shape like a triangle, so when you sew your running stitches, just make sure that it is even on both sides of the ear.

HTH!

I am not much of a knitter yet - but as a sewer I think I have a good idea.
The head is just a basic rectangle.

To make the ears you are going to basically just “dog ear” the corners at the top. Just like folding over 2 papers you want to keep together or the way you might fold down a book page to mark it.

But instead of folding you stitch aross the the corner. If you lightly stuff the corners first, when you stitch across the corner you will get that cure puffy look in the ears. Stuffing the rest of the head more firmly than the ears will make those rather flatish ears round out a bit.
Hope this helps!
