this baby blanket will drive me to drink! My daughter wants a ruffle edge on the baby blanket along with the monogram in the center that looks like french knot stitches. So besides needing help to make the monogram…I also need help on how to make a ruffle edge. Do I just increase every row or every other row?

Take a practice piece of about 30 sts and increase in every row, and in every other one, for a few inc rows. Decide which you like better.

I did a lovely girls hat and jumper with a ruffled edge once and I’m pretty sure I increased every stitch for 2 or three rows, then cast the lot off, i’m planning to do a ruffle on my current project and that’s how i was thinking to do it, but if you have the patience doing a test is obviously the way to go, but I know what I’m like when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!good luck

How did you do your stitch increase? Yarn over?

yarn over increases would be pretty - it would be a lacy ruffle.

If you don’t want it to so lacy, kint into the front & back or knit into the bar betwen 2 stitches to increase.

Have you figured out how to do the monogram yet? I can’t think how to do french knots on a knitted item - I don’t think they’d show up well. All I can think to do is duplicate stitch, but that isn’t anything close to french knots.

I just finished a scarf that had a ruffled edge. What you do is knit into the front and then the back of each stitch for two rows and then BO (of course I was using chunky yarn, you may have to do several rows with baby yarn). The tighter the stitch, the rufflier the ruffle will be. Good luck!

Thanks for all the help with the “ruffle”…I will try doing a practice run and do the yarn over, as I think the lacey look would be nice. I also saw a “picot” edge on a spiral blanket that looked really pretty and since I haven’t found any answer as to the “french knot” dilema…I might switch gears and do a spiral instead. Any ideas as to a good yarn to use for a very soft, special, baby blanket? I used “Snuggley…something?” for the last one and it was so very soft, but really is a hand wash so didn’t hold up the best.

how do you do “short rows”?
would I have to add on the ruffle…or could I just start with double or triple the stitches on one end and decrease (but then how would I do the “yarn over” style ?) and then on the other end I would increase a couple rows? But then, how do I ruffle the sides?
Boy, do I need help.
