Row Advice please?

I am new to knitting and I have no ‘live’ person to help me. I have to do a row which says:

k2 [s1 wyib k1] to end
I know to knit 2 stitches, I know how to slip a stitch with yarn in back then knit 1 stich after the slipped one. However, i am not sure how to continue the row after this?

In effect, does the instruction mean I will actually be knitting 3 stiches one after the other, then slipping every 4th stitch, then knitting 3 stitches, then slipping one, to the end? I was under the impression that ‘repeat’ was in a row instruction to repeat stiches. The above instruction I am not clear on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I can’t continue my project until I know for sure.

Thank you
One embarrassed newbie

PS: The row after this says:

k1 [yf k2tog] to last stitch. Does this mean I end up decreasing my stiches on the needle? If this is the case, am I decreasing every other stitch until the end, please? (the next rows are simple, garter, then stocking, so I have no problem with these, but every 3rd and 4th rows I get the instructions I posted.

(Sorry for being really thick)

Welcome to KH!
These are really good questions. The repeat on the first row is the slip 1 wyib, k1. So you’ll begin with k2 and repeat the slip 1 wyiv, k1 across the row. You repeat only the directions in brackets.
For the second row, the number of sts won’t decrease because the yarn forward indicates a yarn over. Bring the yarn to the front between the needles and then to the back over the right needle to make the k2tog. That will increase one stitch and will balance out the decrease from the k2tog. Again, on this row, repeat only the directions in brackets across the row (the yf, k2tog)/

My understanding is that you k2, then [slip1 k1] and repeat the [slip1 k1] to the end of the row.

On the next row you should end up with the same no. of stitches as you will make a stitch by bringing the yarn forward before the k2tog - repeat what is in the brackets to end of row. HTH

Thank you so much for your help. I was going to get it all wrong had I gone off and done what I thought! It just goes to show that it pays to ask an expert

THANK YOU for your help with this. You know what you’re doing and I am VERY appreciative of that!

Thank you for saving me from a red face

Now I can continue :knitting:
