I need help with a portion of a pattern that I am knitting in the section that reads for the Matinee Jacket:
Now place Heart Motifs as follows:
next row (rs) K9 [11: 13: 15], work next 13 sts as row 1 of Heart Motif Chart, K11 [13: 15: 17], work next 13 sts as row 1 of Heart Motif Chart, K9 [11: 13: 15].
next row P9 [11: 13: 15], work next 13 sts as row 2 of Heart Motif Chart, P11 [13: 15: 17], work next 13 sts as row 2 of Heart Motif Chart, P9 [11: 13: 15].
These 2 rows set the sts - 2 Heart Motifs with st st (stockinette st) between and at sides.
Keeping sts correct as now set, working rem 14 rows of Heart Motifs, cont as follows:
Dec 1 st at each end of next and 2 foll 6th rows. 49 [55: 61: 67] sts. Work 1 row, ending after Heart Motif Chart row 16 and with a ws row.
Now working all sts in st st (stockinette st), beg with a K row, complete back as follows:
Work 2 rows, ending with a ws row.
NEED HELP WITH THIS SECTION:
Keeping sts correct as now set, working rem 14 rows of Heart Motifs, cont as follows:
Dec 1 st at each end of next and 2 foll 6th rows. 49 [55: 61: 67] sts. Work 1 row, ending after Heart Motif Chart row 16 and with a ws row.
I am not sure on what rows of the heart motif I am to decrease the stitches.
I’ve attached the heart motif chart for reference and thanking anyone in advance if they can help me.

I’ve made this cardigan although not the bonnet or blanket. It’s really a darling sweater.
Work rows 1 and 2 as given. Dec at each end on the next row, row 3 then on rows 9 and 15.

WOW🤩 I cannot thank you enough, for not only responding to my call out SO expeditiously, but also, deciphering this pattern for me as I would never have read it as that.
You truly have been of marvellous help
bronnie
P.S. I have already knitted up the bonnet and the booties, which are really special. After I finish the Matinee Jacket I will be completing the blanket which are all a gift for my new Grandbaby Niece🥰
What a lucky baby, congratulations! She will be the latest fashion trend. Have fun finishing up. We’d love to see the finished set.

Hi again, I just was working through the pattern and I’m starting with 55 stitches and working the smallest size so I just want to check as to if I decrease stitches on the next row then the 7th row and then the 13th row so I have 49 stitches left as the pattern dictates?
Sorry to question you on this but I did not specify I was working the smallest size and the number of stitches I started with so I wasn’t being clear in the first instance.
Looking forward to hearing from you when you get the opportunity.
bronnie
You start with 55sts then decrease at each end of the decrease rows. That’s 6sts decreased leaving you with 49sts.
Since the next row is row 3 the following 6th rows will be rows 9 and 15. If you call the next row, row 1 then yes, dec on rows 7 and 13.
No problem asking for clarification. We want to make sure it’s clear so you can enjoy the knitting.

WOOONDERFUL!!! Thank you again so much, truly
You helped me with a part of this pattern before when responding to somebody else’s question so I believe I found a real treasure in finding this website, and you, which I just subscribed to yesterday, as it has already provided invaluable assistance to me.
FANTASTIC WORK

I’m glad you found us too! Thanks very much for joining the forum and have fun knitting.

Me again, with my apologies
I just want to make sure that I’m reading this part of the pattern correctly for shaping the raglan armholes.
Cast (bind) off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 43 [49: 55: 61] sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of next and 3 [2: 2: 1] foll 4th rows, then on every foll alt row until 17 [19: 21: 23] sts rem.
Work 1 row, ending with a ws row.
Break yarn and leave sts on a holder (for Neckband).
THIS IS THE PART THAT I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY:
Dec 1 st at each end of next and 3 [2: 2: 1] foll 4th rows, then on every foll alt row until 17 [19: 21: 23] sts rem.
Is this the correct way to do?
ROW 1: decrease one stitch at each end of row (41 stitches)
ROW 2: Purl
ROW 3: Knit
ROW 4: Purl
ROW 5: decrease one stitch at each end of row (39 stitches)
ROW 6: Purl
ROW 7: Knit
ROW 8: Purl
ROW 9: decrease one stitch at each end of row (37 stitches)
ROW 10: Purl
ROW 11: Knit
ROW 12: Purl
ROW 13: decrease one stitch at each end of row (35 stitches)
ROW 14: Purl
ROW 15: decrease one stitch at each end of row (33 stitches)
ROW 16: Purl
ROW 17: decrease one stitch at each end of row (31 stitches)
ROW 18: Purl
ROW 19: decrease one stitch at each end of row (29 stitches)
ROW 20: Purl
ROW 21: decrease one stitch at each end of row (27 stitches)
ROW 22: Purl
ROW 23: decrease one stitch at each end of row (25 stitches)
ROW 24: Purl
ROW 25: decrease one stitch at each end of row (23 stitches)
ROW 26: Purl
ROW 27: decrease one stitch at each end of row (21 stitches)
ROW 28: Purl
ROW 29: decrease one stitch at each end of row (19 stitches)
ROW 30: Purl
ROW 31: decrease one stitch at each end of row (17 stitches)
ROW 32: Purl
Then I do this as final part of this section:
Break yarn and leave sts on a holder (for Neckband)
Looking forward to hearing from you when you get the opportunity and my apologies again for yet another question.
bronnie
That looks like exactly what you want to do.
Don’t even think twice about asking another question and then another. We’re all about asking and figuring out here. Hope you’re on your way now!

Hi, I’m trying to knit the largest size of the same pattern but I don’t understand how many rows and where I need to decrease before starting the heart motif
Welcome to KH!
Are you knitting the blanket or the sweater or perhaps the bonnet?
For the back on the largest sweater size, there are 4 rows of rib and 44rows of stockinette before setting up the heart motif.
The 44 rows are 6 rows st st, 2 rows rosebud, 33 rows for the decreases, and 3 more row st st.
If you’re making something other than the sweater, let us know.
