Rico Knitting pattern for a Brioche Hat

Can someone advise what this means
"Sl1p wyif,yo, *p3tog, patt3, rep from * to last 5 Sts, p3tog, patt2,52 Sts.

I am trying to understand what patt3 and Patt 2 means in those instructions.
Can someone assist please

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
Patt some number of sts means to continue the pattern stitch that you’ve established in previous rows.
Is this the hat?

It is similar I think. It is a Rico Pattern 647. The brioche pattern consists of Sl1p, wyif, yo, p2tog (yo and 1st) repeat.
For shaping the crown the instructions are to Sl1p wyif,yo, *p3tog, patt3, rep from * to last 5 Sts, pat3tog, patt2. 52 st.
Does this mean I do the following Sl1p waif, yo, p3tog, ( Sl1p wyif, yo, p2tog ) 3 times, p3tog, (Sl1p waif, yo, p2tog) 3 times, p3tog…

The p2tog and its accompanying yo count as one stitch so pattern 3 likely means Sl1p wyif, yo, p2tog, sl1p wyif yo so that the
slip 1 wyif is one,
yo p2tog is two and
sl1 wyif is three.

Then you go on to p3tog and finish the repeat.

Just make sure that the pattern of purl stitch, purl stitch plus accompanying yo repeats across.
Does the pattern give you stitch counts along the row?

No the pattern does not indicate stitch counts along the row. The cast on for the hat was 78 stitches.
Row 1 was *SL1p wyif,yo,p1, repeat from * to end
Row 2 *Sl 1p waif,yo, p2tog (yo and 1 st), repeat from * to end (Row 2 forms brioche pattern)
Upon finishing Row 2 of the hat, I was left with 117 stitches on my needle (38 groups of 3 stitches plus 2 stitches at the bottom of the needle and 1 stitch at the top end of the needle.
For ROW 1 if SHAPING THE CROWN, I am required to work 9 rows without dec.
Then for the 11th row, I am required to Slip waif,yo,p3tog, patt3,rep from to last 3 sts,p3tog, 34 sts, then working 5 more rows without dec.

That stitch count is correct if you count the yo as a stitch. Because this is brioche, don’t count it as an extra stitch. Count the yo and it’s underlying slip stitch as one stitch.
Proceed as given in my last post counting the yo and the slip stitch as one. The p3tog is the sl1 yo, p1, and the next sl1 yo from the previous row. That puts you back in pattern to work the next 3 starting with a sl1 yo.

Am I understanding this correctly, that there is no yo before I knit the second p3tog and all subsequent p3tog on Row 1 of Shaping the crown?

Sl1p wyif,yo, *p3tog, patt3, rep from * to last 5 Sts, pat3tog, patt2. 52 st.

Think of the yo as part of the slip stitch. (Both will be purled as one stitch on the next row.)
You’re always going to need a slip stitch-yo pair for brioche.

Work the slip one yo then purl the next 3sts together. Then you go back to working 3 pattern sts ending with slip one, yo before the next p3tog.

OK, starting with 78sts and decreasing will get you to 52. You could try this out on some scrap yarn and a relatively small number of sts to see how it works.

Many thanks for your help. I am now testing this out as advised before proceeding with the rest of my project.

A big thank you to salmonmac for your clear and helpful instructions which enabled me to complete this project.
