Ribbon Yarn question?

At least I think the stuff is a ribbon type yarn. I picked up some Red Heart Sashay on clearance today. Couldn’t resist the price or trying something new, well new to me.:teehee:

Other than spreading it out and rolling into a cake, does anyone have any other tips for knitting this stuff up without picking at that top loop stitch by stitch?:eyes:

I’d never seen this yarn, but I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0oIwhsgLAQ

You could try using it as regular yarn I guess but it’s made with using the mesh loops in mind. If you find or try something else to do with it please let us know. I’ve thought about trying some of this stuff but it looks fiddly. I just found a Tunisian crochet video for it too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4IvwzcxIyM

Thanks Ingrid!

I really loathe the English method for this yarn. PITA doesn’t do it justice, and slow, OMG is it slow!:tap: okay, no more kvetching… I did a row Continental, and that was better, the knit stitch is almost exactly as in Portuguese, but I miss my knitting pin. Just did a row in Portuguese with it wrapped around my neck, but it’s still über fiddly stuff for knitting, and slippery as an eel even on bamboo.:gah:

Crochet may be easier, but the other 9 balls are going to find a new home with someone who loves the er, stuff. That someone isn’t me. You want a free trial, GG?

Where did you get it? Is it returnable? Some stores allow returns on clearance items, others don’t.

The king of low low prices. WalMart. Given how little I spent on it, I’d lose more in time than what it cost me to buy it. Besides, I could be knitting.

Walmart? I go to WallyWorld too often. They have a better yarn selection now than they did. Not great, but better. Yeah, it does take time from knitting, doesn’t it?

There are hundreds of projects made with it on Ravelry. Maybe they have some help?

I have a love hate relationship with this yarn, cause it’s so frustrating and tedious to work with; on the other hand, the scarves it makes look fantastic and I’ve gifted loads of them for Christmas or birthdays and they’ve been very well received. I’ve had to make extras too, for those poor ladies who have teenage daughters who stole mammas nice Christmas scarf and won’t give it back!

The Sashay wool is the more open weave. The other wool is called Rumba and I get in from the UK. The Shashay is much easier and quicker to knit though, but I really hope no one wants one for this Christmas!

You MUST knit every other loop to get the ruffle effect.

Knitting every loop creates a limp ā€œruffleā€.
Knitting more than every 2/3 loop creates long ā€œloopsā€ between sts, not ruffles.

Thanks RK!

I saw examples of what you described in this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVGHP8-NS94.

Her first example was a knit every hole scarf, and it curled up like those crocheted ponytail holders I wore in my hair in the 60s and 70s that literally looked like a pigs’ tail on each end. Dates me I know, but it’s truth in advertising. :teehee:

Then she showed the every other hole scarves she knitted. Gorgeous drape!

Oddly enough, this Portuguese knitter has found it easier to work this yarn by knitting Continental because I can keep the working yarn close to the needles and spread out enough to somewhat comfortably grab the 2nd loop.

I know lots of people love this yarn, and it is beautiful. Brenda described it beautifully, it’s a love/hate relationship! Sigh…

Maybe the scales will tip toward LOVE and you’ll end up enjoying it, just not all the time. That would be cool.
