Ribbing Row 8...

Hi all,

I am working away at my first knitting projects and I need some help reading the next part of my knitting pattern please!

I’ve just cast on 33 sts and worked 7 rows of Rib and I don’t understand the next step…

Row 8 - Rib 5, leave these Sts on a safety pin for Left Front Band, rib to end, inc 0 st/s in Centre … 28 Sts.

Any help would greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! x

Welcome to the forum!
Work in the rib stitch that you have already established for 5 stitches, then place those 5sts on a holder, a safety pin or scrap yarn. Now continue in rib across the rest of the row. You’ll have 28 live sts on the needle.
If there is a 0 for your size, skip that direction.
What is the name of your pattern?

I’m on to the next part and it’s getting a little confusing.
The end of the LEFT FRONT panel…

con dec one st (as before) at raglan edge in the next row and foll alt row once, then in every row 3 times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in next row, then in every foll alt row 2 times … 2sts.

I don’t quite understand what “in every row 3 times” means? and also on the opposite side “foll alt row 2 times”?

Thanks again for all your help!

These directions are often confusing. “Every row 3 times” means dec on each of the next 3 rows. “Foll alt row 2 times” means the next 2 alternate rows.
If you call the next row, row 1 then dec at the raglan edge on rows 1,3,4,5 and 6. Dec at the neck edge on row 1,3 and 5.

Hello! Hope you are all safe and well,

Been making some progress with the cardigan, on to the arms at the moment!
But before I go any further I just wanted to check I have read the next part of the pattern right…

So far I have ribbed and then knitted to a length of 43cm for the sleeve in stocking st.
Then, Shape Raglan:
Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows… 45 sts.

Next Row - K2, s1, K1, psso, knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2. cont dec one st (as before) at each end of every foll alt row until 17 sts rem, then every row (as before) until 7 sts rem.

Am I right on the ‘next row’ to dec on knit side and then purl as normal for the alternate row until 17, and then dec on both the knit and purl row as ‘every row’ until 7 ??

Thank you again for all your help!!
xx

Yes, that’s it exactly. Until you get to 17sts, the decreases will be on every right side (RS) row. After that it’s every row.
When you get to decreasing every row, a p2tog through the back loop (p2tog tbl) is a good purl side decrease on the side with the slip 1, k1, psso and a p2tog is a good dec on the side with the k2tog.
Stay safe and post a photo when you finish. We’d love to see you sweater.

Hi charliepajamas,

Well done on managing to figure out your pattern! It’s a good idea to figure out row by row what the pattern is asking you to do. It’s not so daunting when you take it row by row…

Well done, also, on successfully working with mohair.

I too would love to see the finished article!
