Why is my ribbing looser at the end of my work and tighter at the beginning? I am working 1x1 ribbing for 8 rows at the beginning and end of my piece. I am using the same size needles and when I measures the stockinette stitching before the end ribbing and after the beginning ribbing, my gauge is the same. Also 8 rows at the beginning measure an inch and the 8 rows at the end measure 1.25 inches.
What are you knitting and can you link to your pattern? Oftentimes a pattern calls for using smaller needles for the ribbing, are you sure you didn’t start out with smaller needles? Otherwise, you’re knitting looser is the only explanation I can come up with.
Maybe you’re just more relaxed?
I have to agree with Ingrid, I think you are probably more relaxed. When I start a project I try to make sure I finish it as quickly as possible due to the fact that I know that my knitting will change over time depending on my mood. If I am stressed my knitting will be tighter than when I am relaxed. This is another reason that I always knit my socks at the same time or I will have 2 socks that are different sizes. I would bind off at row 7 and see if this helps. It isn’t the ideal fix but are you more concerned about the rows or the measuring being the same?:knitting:
