Ribb stitch help?!

Hey y’all!! I am fairly new to knitting. I’ve been trying a ribb stitch but It always ends up looking like a mess of purls.

I am trying a 2x2 ribb stitch starting with 64 stitches. When starting with K2 on row one I end with P2. When I flip work to start row 2, will I start with P2 or K2?

Hello

The back of a knit stitch looks like a purl bump and the back of a purl bump looks like a knit stitch.
Therefore on the right side of the work if you k2 this shows as p2 on the wrong side. If you p2 on the right side this looks like k2 on the wrong side.
Ending a row with p2, turn (flip), begin with k2.

I would suggest trying out the 2 by 2 rib in a smaller swatch (cast on a multiple of 4, maybe 24 stitches rather than 64) so you can see it work up and whilst doing so try to “read” your knitting. Reading your work is a key skill so you can tell where you are in a pattern.
The knit stitches look like V and the purl stitches look like a line across or a bump.

For rib and some other fabrics you knit the knits and purl the pirls, that means when you turn the work look at the stitch you are about to work, if it looks like a V knit it, if it looks like a bump purl it.

I hope this helps, please do ask if it’s not clear or any other questions.
