Rib 1x1 and 2x2

Hi what is the difference between tension of knit and and purl one ribbing and knit 2 and purl 2 ribbing? my pattern calls for 2x2 and I want to do the elastic cuff cast on which requires 1x1 ribbing. thanks

Which bind off is that? I don’t recognize it by that name.

The difference between a 1x1 rib and a 2x2 rib would not be much (versus say the 1x1 and a 2x3 or 4x6).

But, ultimately the tension/difference depends on the knitter (YOU). So, if you are concerned about the 1x1 being different than the 2x2, then you should do some gauge swatches in each and check tension/measurements.

For myself, I find that the 1x1 ribbing has much more spring and tension to it. The 2x2 lies flatter and is noticeably more relaxed.

When you say ‘elastic cuff cast on’ do you mean either the Alternate Cable Cast On or the Italian Cast On, because, if you do, it is possible to adjust both of them to work with 2x2 rib.

Here’s the link to download the pdf for the 2x2 Alternate Cable Cast On http://www.woollywormhead.com/knit-and-crochet-1/

I couldn’t find a good video for the Italian 2x2 Cast On, but the basic method is cast on, work either 2 or 4 foundation rows (personal preference), and on the next row switch the stitches as in Wolly Wormhead’s method.
