Resizing a pattern for lesser weight yarn

I have a great (and easy) sock pattern that I love that is for worsted weight yarn. However, I’d like to try a pair with a lesser weight yarn like sport weight/fingering weight (I’m not even sure I’m using these terms correctly). Is there a way (math I’m assuming) to resize the pattern for this lesser weight yarn. I usually use size 6 dpns with the worsted weight or cotton yarn casting on 48 stitches proceeding from there. I have 8 stitches left after the heel turn - picking up 12 stitches for each gusset (56 sts) and decrease back to 48 sts. Any help would be appreciated.

There are SO many patterns on the internet and books I think it would be much easier to just find a pattern for the weight of yarn you want to use. If you give us that info we can supply you with lots of patterns.

Ah heck… check these out. :teehee:

Hey, thanks so much. I guess that’s really what I needed, huh? It’s just that sometimes I find sock patterns to be so confusing. I haven’t moved to more than one color yet.

Who needs to do that when there are self striping yarns? I know how to do Fair Isle, but a sock is something that few people see so I think I’ll stick to self striping and keep the FI for sweaters.

This is my favorite site for sock patterns. I can spend hours looking at patterns.
