Hi everyone,
I’ve just hit a snag on my first ever knitting project, and wondered whether you guys might so kind as to help me out! I’m knitting a tea cosy, and am having a bit of trouble understanding some of the instructions - I’d be really grateful if anybody could explain what these instructions are asking me to do.
So, here’s the problem. After the first few rows, the instructions called for me to slip half of my stitches onto a stitch holder and continue working the other half. After completing this half, the instructions told me to cut the yarn leaving a long tail, slip the stitches on the stitch holder onto the spare needle, and transfer the half that I’d just completed working onto the stitch holder.
Now for the part that I’m struggling with! After directing me to transfer the worked half onto the stitch holder, the instructions go straight into directions for the first row (i.e. ‘K3, P1, REP’). I’m not sure what yarn I’m supposed to be using to knit this new row with - the ‘long tail’ I left from my worked half, or my original ball of yarn…? To make matters even more complicated, the instructions direct me after this first row to ‘Rejoin yarn’, and continue to work the same pattern as I had previously worked for the first half. Again, I’m not sure what yarn I’m supposed to be ‘rejoining’ here. At first glance, rejoining the long tail from the first half would make the whole cosy inextricably wonky, which has puzzled me even further. I’ve included a photo of the instructions (the part I’m struggling with is in the lower half of the photo - sorry for the bad quality!) - I hope it helps to flesh out the nature of the problem. So, if anybody would be able to help me with tips on how to proceed with this, I really would be incredibly grateful!
Many thanks,
Nat
