I love to make my socks but they are not lasting long. I like to wear them around the house with no shoes on, just to warm my feet. I find that I get a hole on the ball of my sock foot - not the heel. The last pair I made with Moda Dea Sassy Stripes and reinforce the bottom with Wolly Nylon. Had same problem. Does anyone have any sugestions? I need a good sock yarn that will machine wash and dry with regular laundry. Thanks for your wisdom.
I don’t know. It sounds like what you did should have been some help. What I’m thinking is that you are not really wearing your socks like socks but slippers. Have you ever considered putting something on the bottom like they do for slipper socks? I haven’t done it but there have been threads about stuff that works on slipper bottoms. Just a thought.

You could also try making EZ’s replaceable sole socks from Knitter’s Almanac.
I made a pair of felted slippers from Drops patterns and stitched leather soles on to them.
