Reinforcing button holes

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for reinforcing button holes once they’ve been knitted?

So like when I’ve knit a button hole, is there a way I can reinforce it after the fact? Stitching around it or something?

Yes, stitching around it is a good way to make the buttonhole sturdier and also perhaps a bit tighter. You can use an overcast stitch or a blanket stitch to do this.
I like the one row buttonhole for a nice finished one that doesn’t need reinforcing. It takes more time but it’s worth it.

Thank you for that. I’ll do that next time I need to make a button hole, it looks so much simpler than sewing over one that’s already been knit.

I remember learning blanket stitch in primary school, so I’ll try that one on the button hole I’ve already made.

I’ve knit about 40 rows since doing it, so there’s no way I’m tinking it

I understand not wanting to go back. I learned blanket stitch from my mom when I was primary school age and always associate with early sewing attempts.

Our school actually taught us basic stitching stuff. With hindsight I wish they’d taught us much more.
