Hi all, I’m new to this forums and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for really good books on knitting for beginners? (and I mean a total beginner!) One that preferably talks about not only techniques, but types of yarn, needles, etc.
I’ve got Donna Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Knitting and it really is good. I got it mainly for the Fair Isle chapter so I could start learning to knit with more than one color (it helped a lot). And anything by Elizabeth Zimmerman is pure gold.
If you know the basics the best way to learn is to just pick a pattern and go. I like the Fearless Knitting Workbook. I found it here. I think you sign up for some 4 books for a $1 each deal, but they have books on everything: knitting, crochet, gardening, cooking, etc. It was harder to pick just 4. Anyways, ravelry is also a great place to find someone to help you if you get stuck on a pattern.
