Recommendations for all natural sock yarn?

I’ve started sock knitting. I’ve always been interested in natural fibers in my projects, usually to exclusivity, and my socks are not an exception. Yet, my attempts at knitting socks with wool that I had around resulted in pilly disappointment.

I don’t care about softness or machine washability. These cotton candy fluffy yarns for sock yarns seem very odd to me. I do need a range of colors, and light fingering or fingering is a must. (I like to make stranded color work socks.)

Any suggestions?

Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co has all wool sock yarn. Scroll down.

The key for durability is a tighter tension. This may also help with pilling.

I know this is an old post, but I wonder whether you would like a yarn called Frangipani. It is a worsted-spun sportweight wool, hand wash, and pretty tough stuff. I like it a lot.

You can send for a free colour card:

The only thing is, I wonder if it might be a bit heavy for stranded colourwork. The sample card gives you small lengths of yarn so you could probably knit up a wee sample to test.

Another option if you are in the USA is Socks that Rock. It’s a tightly spun superwash wool:

(I haven’t used this one.)
