Recast on question and row 1 question

Hi! I am following a paid knitting pattern, and I am stuck at the bottom ribbing of top. I cast on 84 stitches. Row 1 K4, p4 across row ( ending with a k4) The cast on in the pattern is (52, 60, 68, 76). I altered to 84 stitches to make the top slightly bigger. What did I do wrong? Thanks for any help.

The numbers look ok to me, a multiple of 8 plus 4.

Maybe go back and count your stitches again, see if you accidentally made a yarn over or made an error in the 4 x 4 rib. An accidental yarn over is sometimes linked to a slipped stitch, the yo should be inside the slipped stitch, its something i occassionally do if knitting fast or not paying attention (if you dont spot it you can work these as 2 on the next row increasing the stitch count). Or depending how experienced you are, occassionally new knitters make the first stitch of the row into 2.

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
I agree, your stitch count should work and is consistent with the other sizes in the cast on.

Nice pattern. What makes you think you’ve done something wrong? Would you like to post a photo to show us your knitting?

Hi! Thanks . The instructions for the bottom ribbing is to ending with a k4. I end with a p4.

Thanks again.

Go over the stitches in groups of 4 as best you can to make sure of the count and that the groups alternate 4 knits, 4 purls. For 84sts you should have 10 groups of 4k, 4p and one extra groups of 4k.

Would you be able to spread the stitches out on the needle and take another photo?

As you are working with 2 strands have you checked every single stitch has a double thread and not accidentally worked into each strand anywhere?

Hello,

I think I unintentionally knit the row 1 backwards. Let me explain. Originally I was knitting with 10 inches long straight needles. Then, I changed to 14 inches long needles because I thought 84 cast on stitches was better on 14 inches long needles. I messed up when I made this change.

Thank you for your assistance. You are great.

Hello,

I just explained to Salmonmac what I think I did wrong when I changed from 10 inches long straight needles to 14 inches long straight needles. I guess I should have transferred one stitch at a time from the shorter needle to the 14 inches knitting needles. Instead, I knitted and purled the first row from the shorter needle to the longer needle.

Now I have transferred one stitch at a time from the needle with the stitches to the other needle. I used a crochet hook to help me. The sequence of knit and purl are now correct and k4 is at the end.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it very much.
