Hii i’m getting ready to start this free pattern of a cardigan by loupy studio but i’m having an issue with gauge. My 10x10 cm test square is only 9x9 cm when blocked. Would it means that it will take 1cm every 10cm in the measurement??(ex bust 129-12=117) Because the project would still fit me if soand i can’t knit it in a larger needle cause it wouldn’t look good.
It would be easier to think of this as a percentage. 9cm/10cm is 0.9, so anything you knit will be 90% the size of the patterns measurements. 129 cm bust is then 116 cm since 129*0.9=116.1 cm. If that still fits for you then go for it.
Welcome to the forum!
The gauge in a pattern is most often given as a 10x10cm swatch but it’s best to work something closer to a 15x15cm swatch. That way you can measure over the middle 10cm. The edge sts are smaller than full middle sts and shouldn’t be counted when determining gauge.
You could measure over the middle 5 or 6cm on your current swatch and see what stitch gauge you get before determining size to make or starting this project or cast on for a larger swatch.
Thanks you for your response!! I did the calculation and it’s roughtly the same measurement that i did before so i thinks i can go ahead!!! ![]()
