I have a knitting pattern for a jumper but I am stumped!
So… I have 89 stitches so far and now the pattern changes to this:
Next Row: K1,*k1,yfrt,slp,ybk, rep from * to last 2 stitches, k2
Next Row: K1, *yfrt,s1p,ybk,knit tog next st and loop across st (yfrt and s1p of precious row), rep from * to last 2 sts, yfrt, s1p, ybk, k1
My trouble comes with this second row… when it takes knit tog next st and loop across st. I have tried searching for how to do this and results seem to say that I go through the slipped stitch and then someone have to pick the loop up that was created in the previous row and knit them together. I have tried doing this but it looks odd and feels very tight!
I was wondering if anyone had any tips or even a video showing what to do? I’m so stuck and I have asked my Nana who taught me how to knit but unfortunately she is now blind and so can’t see what I mean…
I think this should make a yo which shouldn’t be tight when worked together with another stitch. That’s how I read it anyhow. I may be wrong and it’s supposed to just put a bar in front of the slipped stitch. What pattern is this from? Seeing it, even if it’s paid and we can only look at the photo may help. Meanwhile someone else may already have the answer you need.
I managed to do it!! It isn’t a yarn over, it’s just a yarn forward otherwise it would increase stitches. Basically I just add the loop part to the left needle (like an m1 almost…) and knit it together with the slipped stitch. Works a treat! The pattern ends up looking like a nice chunky rib!
That’s great! If you did use a yo and then worked it in a 2tog you’d net the same number of stitches, no increases, on the next row. I mention this in case it might come in handy in other patterns you use. Happy knitting!
I have similar instructions in a Rico sweater pattern… Is this an existing stitch pattern? It looks similar to brioche or fishermans rib but I haven’t been able to find any videos which show the knitting together of the loop? not sure which way to pick up the loop
1st Row (RS). K1, *k1, yfrt, s1p, ybk, rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
2nd Row. K1, *p1, knit tog next st and loop across st (yfrt and s1p of previous row), rep from * to last 2 sts, p1, k1.
Hi! I finally figured out what to do and my jumper is going well. I can do some later and video it for you if you like? I am busy this morning as it is Father’s Day.
Welcome to KH! Knitting the slip stitch and yo together is like a k2tog. In this video Suzanne shows it both Continental and English styles. There are also videos for fixing mistakes.
