Re-using yarns

I wanted to do break out of the world of scarves and hats, and so knitted an easy intermediate project: a poncho with minimal shaping and easy seaming. It’s pretty much all stockinette stitch in a bulky acrylic yarn on size 10.5 needles. However, now that it’s all done, I don’t actually want a poncho - it was intended just a learning project. Can I reuse this yarn even though it’s been through a wet-blocking? I have a sweater pattern picked out that I think would be perfect for this yarn, but wondered whether the yarn is still okay even though it was previously blocked. It still seems pretty soft and springy. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, reuse your yarn. Acrylic doesn’t really block, anyway. It may relax after being knitted, but that won’t affect the next project made with it.

In 1939 war broke out in Europe and women became an important part of the war effort from 1939-1945.

One thing I remember as a small child was sitting in on the elders conversations at family get togethers as they talked about what they had to do to survive in the war times. One of those was recycling old yarn from past knitting projects. It didn’t matter if it had holes or not, yarn was yarn. My aunts would re knit it into warm socks for the boys on the front lines and mittens and scarfs and scull caps.

The first project I did was a scarf in variegated yarn, where I used the stitches as I learned them.
In the end, I didn’t like the scarf. It was good for learning to knit, but that’s all.
So I undid it, and reused the yarn for other projects.

Sure go ahead and re-use it, I do that with stuff all the time, when I find I don’t like the pattern with the yarn, or want to make something else with it.
